About this class

Depression affects up to 20% of adults and 25% of teens in the U.S. and is among the leading causes of disability around the world. Psychotherapy and psychiatric medication remain the first-line treatment, yet it's estimated that 30% of people do not experience relief from these interventions. Emerging research is identifying "inflammatory depression" as a distinct subtype that tends towards treatment resistance. This engaging presentation covers the foundations of addressing neuroinflammation in your patients with depression, including the most current research on root causes, assessment, as well as natural and integrative treatment options.

Learning objectives:

  1. Become familiar with the robust research into neuroinflammation as a root cause of depression
  2. Learn how to teach your patients in plain language the way that inflammation may be affecting their mood
  3. Be able to identify possible sources of inflammation, including alterations to the microbiome.
  4. Resource your practice with safe, effective and affordable options to address possible neuroinflammation in all of your patients with depression, even if they have not been classified as treatment-resistant.
